Africa Faces 100 Billion Dollar Trade Deficit With China

Africa's trade deficit with China increased by 65% last year, reaching approximately $102 billion. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant warned about the impact of new Chinese regulations that could penalize foreign firms for shifting operations. Beijing stated that recent discussions regarding a possible board of trade to manage non-sensitive goods were constructive. Both sides raised concerns regarding each other's trade policies during the talks. The Chinese Ministry accused the FCC of repeatedly introducing restrictive measures against Chinese companies and products. China advanced a proposal to bar China Mobile, China Telecom, and Unicorn following FCC actions. The Ministry stated such actions undermine the stability of bilateral economic and trade relations. The Ministry claimed the move would seriously damage the international economic and trade order. China has implemented stricter regulations targeting government officials whose family members reside abroad. The continent currently imports more from China than it exports to the country. This dynamic is described as a method for China to consolidate its position as a primary commercial partner. For example, Guinean exports of bauxite and iron to China are increasing significantly every year.
