Fuel Prices Rise After Subsidy Cut

According to local press, available resources are limited, with estimates suggesting a reduction between 200 and 300 million. The reduction in excise duties on fuels in Italy will be extended until May 10. Aldi is offering promotions on products such as 400-gram Italian meat sausages for 2.89 euros and 300 grams of buffalo mozzarella for 3.29 euros. Truck drivers in Italy have initiated protests against the current fuel prices. The Italian government has extended a decree to prolong the cut in excise duties on fuel for an additional nine days, until May 22. This measure aims to provide relief on fuel prices. While energy tax reductions create policy conditions for lower fuel prices, the actual price decrease is only about 60% of the theoretical reduction. The average price is projected to reach 1.90 euros per liter, with highway prices potentially hitting 2 euros. This change will cost the 17 million gasoline car owners an additional 9 euros per day, totaling over 4 million euros daily across the country.
