Portugal Unlocks 60 Million Euros For Beja Rail Electrification

The Council of Ministers, led by Luiz Montenegro, has unblocked 60 million euros for the electrification of a train line in Beja. Engineer Makara Correia is noted as a key figure in the project's advancement. The project involves coordination with engineers including Makara Correia. António Costa noted that the European Commission is working on a future housing law. The European Union is reportedly better equipped to combat the current housing crisis following a proposal from the Commission. The Portuguese Prime Minister announced 60 million euros for the rehabilitation of irrigation systems affected by extreme weather events. Luís Mira, Secretary General of the Confederation of Farmers, stated that the support amount is low and arrives too late. The funds are intended to compensate for effects related to energy and environmental impacts. The announcement comes ahead of Labor Day amidst ongoing negotiations regarding labor and energy costs. The Prime Minister expects to launch tenders to extend the highway network to all district capitals by the end of the current legislature. Macário Correia, a former PSD mayor, will oversee certain departmental responsibilities. This follows a government revision of the 2026 accounts, which lowered budgetary targets and now points toward a zero balance.
