A report from the Kassensturz program reveals that workers in the Prato textile hub are being systematically exploited under catastrophic conditions. The workforce consists primarily of foreign employees working in high-pressure environments. This investigation highlights the human cost behind the 'Made in Italy' label. Companies appearing healthy are reportedly receiving orders from clothing brands but lack actual production capacity. These firms then subcontract production to smaller companies, often Chinese-run enterprises, according to the report.
