Brent Crude Oil Hits 126 Dollars
Russia will temporarily stop the transit of crude oil from Kazakhstan through Russian territory starting tomorrow. Oil prices reached a four-year high exceeding $126 per barrel due to fears of escalating conflict between the US and Iran affecting the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude prices have reached a level not seen for years following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The market reaction occurs despite current hostilities between the US and Iran being on hold and the ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by both nations. Central banks globally have not yet lowered interest rates despite earlier predictions of decreases this year. Some nations have begun rationing energy supplies to manage consumption. The PCK refinery in Brandenburg continues to process a wide variety of crude oil types, having handled over 30 different varieties during 2022 and 2023.
