Japan Receives One Million Barrel US Oil Shipment

Japan's underlying inflation increased for the first time in five months, reaching 1.8% in March. The data suggests growing inflationary pressures within the Japanese economy. A survey by the KHJ family-association indicates the average age of hikikomori in Japan has increased to 36.9 years. This is an increase from 33.1 years recorded in 2014, with 43% of the population now aged 40 or older. Tokyo's core consumer price index for April rose 1.55 percent compared to the same month last year. Inflation in Japan rose from 1.9 percent to 2.18 percent. The increase coincides with a decline in oil imports and warnings of future trade deficits due to Middle East conflict impacts. The industrial sector faces rising pressures as plastic production in Japan fell sharply in March due to decreased oil imports from the Middle East. Companies have reduced production in anticipation of supply shortages. Japan has received a shipment of approximately one million barrels of oil from the United States. The Japanese government stated that the quality and viscosity of this oil differ from the oil typically sourced from the Arabian Gulf region. Officials are currently seeking alternative methods to address shortages and supply bottlenecks.
