German Unemployment Falls By 13,000 In March
Unemployment numbers in Hessen have decreased slightly, with approximately 212,000 people currently registered as jobless. The regional directorate noted that corporate willingness to hire is currently lower than during the COVID-19 lockdowns. The number of job seekers has decreased only slightly and remains above 3 million. Total unemployment remains above three million people and is higher than the previous year. The national unemployment rate stands at 6.4 percent. Economic tensions are being driven by increased energy prices and supply chain disruptions caused by conflicts in the Middle East. The Federal Employment Agency reported that 3.8 million people were registered as unemployed in April. In the Dortmund to Kassel region, unemployment fell by 13,000 compared to March. Despite the monthly decrease, there are 8,000 more unemployed people than in the previous year.
