Indonesian Rupiah Predicted To Weaken
Commission 7 of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) has raised concerns regarding the scarcity and rising prices of cooking oil. National average prices for cooking oil in Indonesia are currently 19500 Rupiah per liter. Premium packaged cooking oil has reached approximately 21800 Rupiah per liter. Officials note that additional stock is required to maintain supply stability. Public policy observer Robi Nurhadi from Universitas Nasional Jakarta suggests direct cash assistance (BLT) is the most appropriate response to rising cooking oil prices. The policy aims to address the impact of increased costs on basic community needs. Nurhadi notes the government's response is a reaction to reduced purchasing power caused by market-driven price increases. The measure is intended to provide a rapid response to the economic pressure on households.
