German Unemployment Remains Above 3 Million
Germany reported over 3 million unemployed individuals since January, with the figure reaching 3,021,000 in March at a 6.4 percent unemployment rate. Federal Labor Minister Baas stated that the global environment of wars and crises has burdened the economy and the labor market. However, the number of job seekers is 77,000 higher than the previous year. Agency Chairwoman Nahles stated the spring recovery in April is weaker than usual due to the energy crisis caused by the Iran war. The German government expressed hope that threats regarding US troop withdrawals from Europe remain political theater. US military presence at Rammstein Air Base, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, and Grafenwoehr training area is considered a permanent part of the European security architecture. The German government views these installations as essential components of regional security.
