Police Deployed For Cali International Marathon

The city of Cali will host a marathon on Sunday, May 3. A 'car-free day' will be implemented in the city from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM on the day of the event to support the race. The Cali 2026 International Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, May 3. Cali Mayor Alejandro Edder stated the event will include approximately 20,000 participants, including elite athletes and amateurs. The edition holds a World Athletics seal to guarantee high competition levels. The event is described as one of the most sporting events in recent years for the capital of Valle. Five hundred national police officers arrived in Cali to strengthen security measures for the upcoming weekend. More than 20,000 runners from 49 different countries are expected to participate in the event. Security reinforcements follow reports of a front involving 9mm caliber ammunition, 300 cartridges, and five grenades that displaced over 150 people. Mayor Alejandro de Verde stated that the deployment covers strategic points to protect participants and spectators. Authorities expect approximately 20,000 visitors to arrive in the Valle del Cauca capital during the event period. The security measures follow a series of concerts held from May 1 to May 3.
