Leopold Winbarm Granted Exit Visa By Soviet Authorities
Soviet authorities initially denied an exit visa to percussion group leader Leopold Winbarm, threatening the participation of a chamber music theater in Helsinki. The festival director informed Moscow that the tour would lose its meaning without conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky. Moscow subsequently reversed its decision and issued the visa for Winbarm. The theater and Rozhdestvensky have arrived in the Finnish capital for the festival. The festival was previously at risk of being canceled due to the visa situation. The decision follows a period of uncertainty regarding his departure.
