New Church Becomes Tourist Icon After Avalanche
A modern church designed by architect Mario Botta has become a significant tourist attraction in a remote valley. The church was built on the site of a 17th-century church destroyed by an avalanche on April 25, 1986. Ten years after the disaster, the new San Giovanni Battista church was consecrated, retaining the original church's bells.
