Chongqing Integrates Libraries Into Rail Transit
Chongqing is expanding its public cultural services by integrating library access into the city's rail transit system. The initiative includes approximately 1,500 books placed in 'book boxes' throughout the light rail network. This project is part of a broader effort to build a comprehensive public reading service system covering both urban and rural areas. The program aims to allow commuters to access reading materials during their daily travels. The initiative currently covers 3,175 public library access points across the city. The program originally began in 2024 to address the inconvenience of accessing books for the general public. Chongqing Municipality is integrating public library services into the local rail transit system.
