The jury of the Venice Biennale has announced that it will no longer consider exhibitions from Russia or Israel as candidates for awards. This decision follows ongoing geopolitical tensions and serves as a formal exclusion of the two nations from the competition's recognition process. This decision follows a statement on April 22 regarding the exclusion of countries whose leaders are under International Criminal Court arrest warrants. The Biennale did not name specific states in the document but the exclusion of these two nations was confirmed. Sergey Boyko disputed data regarding an incident in the Tuapse district. The countries were previously excluded from the list of laureates one week ago. The awards ceremony, originally scheduled for the first day of the exhibition, has been rescheduled to November 22. Instead of a jury, the winners will be determined by the participants of the Biennale. The president of the exhibition, Pitrangelo Butafoca, stated that he believed it would be better for the jury to step down. The awards process is currently described as having a thriller-like atmosphere according to Italian newspapers. The new judging process is expected to begin on May 9 and last until November 22.
