Suzhou Artisans Recognized For Traditional Craftsmanship
Xue Lingen is a master of Suzhou traditional garden construction, a craft listed as a Chinese national intangible heritage in 2006 and a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage in 2009. A Suzhou artisan was selected for a project at the Metropolitan Museum involving a three-meter-tall Hu Shi peak. Xu Linggen, a 74-year-old artisan, has been recognized for his work spanning from Suzhou to New York, Nagasaki, and Beijing. The Xiangshanbang architectural style, originating from Xukou Town in Suzhou, has been practiced since the Spring and Autumn period.
