Paris Catacombs Introduces New Audio Guide
A new audio guide for Paris catacombs is being implemented to manage the 600,000 annual visitors. The project aims to ensure visitors treat the remains of millions of men, women, and children with respect. The guide will be used within the catacombs to facilitate this interaction. A project involving the Paris Catacombs aims to respect human remains within the large underground cemetery. An ARD studio team in Paris reported on the descent into the bone labyrinth, noting the 130 steps required to reach the site. Art historian Elaine Firmignieu led the team through the underground tunnels. The underground network in Paris consists of galleries spanning 200 to 300 kilometers. The area accessible to visitors, known as the Catacombs, represents only 1.5 kilometers of the total network. The tunnels feature stony, damp walls and ceilings with dripping water.
