Cameroonian Security Forces Target Separatists In Zerennyam

Cameroonian defense and security forces conducted an operation against an active separatist group in the village of Zerennyam. The intervention took place between 3:00 and 4:00 AM on the night of Saturday to Sunday. The village is located within the Jakiri district. The intervention resulted in the deaths of at least 15 civilians, including women. The operation also involved the burning of houses and motorcycles. Cyril Roland-Béchond, executive director of the NGO Nouveau-Droit de l'homme, stated that the Cameroonian government must clarify the situation regarding security operations. The NGO reported that public spaces are being endangered and residents are caught in the crossfire. The NGO Conscience Africaine is attempting to verify the exact number of victims and the sequence of events. Human rights groups report that both government forces and separatist groups have repeatedly committed violence in public spaces in the Anglophone regions. The NGO Nouveau Droit de l'Homme called for government clarification regarding the incident. Cameroon's Ministry of Defense reported 14 victims following a terrorist attack in Zerennyam. The ministry stated that war weapons and improvised explosive devices were seized during the operation.
