Mali Rebels Besiege Capital, Junta Denies Violence
Coordinated attacks hit sensitive points around the capital of Mali, specifically near the Bamako International Airport area. The group Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin, allied with Tuareg rebels, may seize the capital of Mali, possibly within hours, days, or weeks. This would mark the first African capital to fall to a jihadist organization. Wagner Russian forces allied with the military junta are advancing approximately 15 kilometers from the capital, Bamako. This movement may indicate the proximity of the capital's fall. The scale of these military movements, involving an organized army alongside Wagner, suggests financing and coordination beyond simple rebel factions. Rebels from the Jinnim group, linked to al-Qaeda, have begun to besiege Mali's capital, Bamako. The group vowed to prevent anyone from entering as they seek to collapse the military regime and establish Sharia law.
