Azward Liberation Front Claims Political Status
The Azawad Liberation Front, a Tuareg rebel group in Mali, has declared the ruling junta will fall. A spokesperson for the Azawad Front issued a statement from Paris predicting the imminent fall of the military government in Bamako. The spokesperson's comments follow Mali's decision to sever ties with France and pursue closer political and military cooperation with Moscow. The statement comes as the African Corps, representing Russian interests, replaces previous security arrangements in the country. A spokesperson for the Azawad Front issued a call from a French capital stating the military regime in Mali will fall soon. This occurs regardless of the positions held by Paris or European allies regarding the Russian military presence in Mali. The Malian group Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda ally, called for a broad common front on Thursday evening.
