Ukraine Opens Criminal Cases Over Russian Prisoner Deaths
The General Staff of Ukraine reported that approximately 1,140 Russian soldiers were killed or wounded yesterday. Treshchanyin noted that 57% of these identified deaths were volunteers. Ministry of Defense spokesperson Viktoria Tsymbalyuk stated that the number of deceased Russian prisoners is significantly higher than reported. Tsymbalyuk alleged that Russia does not return all bodies of deceased or fallen prisoners. Most deaths in Russian captivity are attributed to starvation and the denial of necessary medical assistance, according to the UN Human Rights Office. Victoria Tsymbaliuk, a representative of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense coordination headquarters for prisoners of war, stated that the actual number of Russian prisoner deaths is significantly higher than reported.
