SBU Identifies Deceased Soldier In Execution Video

Relatives and witnesses are confirming the identities and military affiliations of deceased Ukrainian service members in certain cases where military uniforms are visible. A video from March 6, 2023, appearing on pro-Russian Telegram channels, shows the execution of an unarmed Ukrainian soldier. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has identified the individual responsible for an execution video appearing on pro-Russian Telegram channels in 2023. The video shows an unarmed Ukrainian soldier being shot after shouting 'Glory to Ukraine.' The SBU identified the sniper as Oleksandr Motsievskyi, a member of the 163rd Battalion, after the victim's mother identified him. The SBU continues to investigate drone-saturated and high-intensity combat environments related to the identification of the sniper in the execution video. The victim was identified by his mother as Alexander Matsievsky, a sniper from the 163rd Battalion of the 119th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade. He participated in the defense of Bakhmut in March 2023 before being captured and subsequently executed. His mother reportedly identified him via the footage.
