Man Accused Of Attempting To Buy Weapons In Austria

BBC World Service Vienna 14d14d Impact 8
A man has admitted to being part of a terrorist organization during court proceedings in Vienna. Prosecutors stated the individual attempted to illegally purchase weapons and bring them into Austria. The prosecution alleged the man received internet instructions on how to construct a shrapnel bomb. The source noted that shrapnel bombs are characteristic of Islamic State tactics. The case comes at a time when three sold-out Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna had been cancelled. A man appeared for an initial hearing in a light blue prison jumpsuit with his hands handcuffed behind his back. The individual reportedly carried a shotgun on a Saturday and made social media comparisons between Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler. He also allegedly encouraged critics of the president to acquire weapons and sent a manifesto to family and friends expressing political motivation.
