Tuareg Separatists Recapture Kidal In Mali
Fighting has been reported in six localities across Mali, including Bamako, Konam, Mopti, Sévare, Gao, and Kidal. Attacks were coordinated by Al Qaeda-affiliated JNIM alongside Twareg and FLA fighters. A curfew remains in effect in several areas, though it is expected to be lifted shortly. The groups also carried out attacks in Gao, Borem, and Agihok to target northern strongholds. The group JNIM is expanding operations across Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Benin, and Ivory Coast. The recapture of Kidal was achieved through coordinated attacks in Gao, Burrem, and Agilhok by Tuareg separatist groups known as the FLA. The recapture of Kidal achieved in 2023 is crumbling following a siege this weekend. The absence of military leader Goïta is causing concern as militants push toward economic corridors.
