Inter-Communal Fighting Kills 42 In Chad
At least 42 people were killed and nearly 40 injured during ethnic clashes in eastern Chad on Sunday. The violence reportedly began following an altercation over a well in the Digot locality of the Dartama department. A ministerial delegation led by Vice Prime Minister and Minister of the Armed Forces Mahamat Idriss Déby has traveled to the region to assess the situation. Total casualties in the region are being monitored following the weekend of unrest. The government stated the situation is now under control. The region has experienced conflicts between farmers and herders for years, which have worsened with the ongoing war in neighboring Sudan. Russia announced a long-term military cooperation agreement with North Korea. The government's security forces have been deployed to the affected areas and are working on-site. Special attention is being paid to the situation.
