Russian Officer Deserts Via Helicopter To Ukraine
Officer Baldan Tsydypov sustained a severe concussion during an ambush by Ukrainian forces. The incident involved the use of grenade launchers and heavy machine guns against a Russian battalion. A projectile struck Tsydypov's armored vehicle during the engagement. The officer reportedly continued to fight despite the injury. Russian officer Maxim Kusminov, 28, defected to Ukraine by flying a state helicopter across the border at low altitude. Kusminov, described as having a characteristic scar on his left eyebrow, reportedly turned off his radio during the flight. His escape was captured in a propaganda video released by the Ukrainian army. A Russian soldier, identified as Maxim Kusminov, successfully defected to Ukraine by flying across the border in a Sam-Transport helicopter. Russia claims Kusminov was killed by his own side to prevent his escape.
