Japan Modifies Helicopter Carriers For F-35B Deployment
Japan's Izumo and Kaga helicopter carriers have completed structural modifications to accommodate F-35B fighter jets. These carriers are now considered light aircraft carriers, capable of deploying approximately 10 to 15 F-35B aircraft. The modifications included structural changes to support fixed-wing aircraft operations, such as larger elevators. These carriers are expected to be equipped with 10 to 15 F-35Bs. The design of these vessels already considered future modifications for fixed-wing aircraft. These carriers will operate as 20,000-ton light aircraft carriers, equipped to carry approximately 10 to 15 F-35B aircraft. These modifications were considered during the initial design phase, allowing for expanded flight decks and large elevators suitable for fixed-wing aircraft. The modifications are intended to enhance Japan's overseas operational capabilities.
