Mali Defense Minister Killed In Attack Near Bamako

Renewed fighting has broken out in Kidal, northern Mali, following coordinated attacks by jihadist militants and separatist fighters. Rebel forces have established complete control over the city of Kidal in Mali. Local reports confirm the city is now under their administration. Al Araby Radio confirms the city of Kidal is now under full rebel control. The takeover included the targeting of the Ministry of Defense, a headquarters located near the capital. The Malian government has directed accusations toward international groups or major foreign powers regarding the involvement in these attacks. Several detonations were heard approximately 30 minutes ago during the ongoing conflict. Tuareg rebels have announced an agreement with Russia to withdraw from Kidal. The attack on the minister's home near Bamako was carried out by a group linked to Al Qaeda, and two bystanders were wounded by gunfire. German Embassy reports the security situation is unclear and local airports have been closed following the attack. Minister Sadio Kamara was killed at his residence in Kati during attacks attributed to jihadists and separatist groups. Attacks on April 25 targeted the Defense Minister's residence alongside Bamako International Airport and major military bases.
