Russian Africa Corps Withdraws From Kidal
Tuareg rebels in Mali have announced an agreement with Russian forces regarding their withdrawal from Kidal. Negotiations held overnight and into the morning of April 26 resulted in the withdrawal of Russian forces from Kidal, according to Tuareg spokesperson Dazdei Effelie. Monte Carlo Doualiya reports that attacks in Mali have been since the military junta took power six years ago. The United Nations has condemned the violence in Mali and called for coordinated international support to address the escalating threat. The Azawad Liberation Front, a Tuareg separatist group, has reached an agreement to facilitate the departure of Russian Africa Corps mercenaries from Kidal, Mali. Separately, Al-Qaeda-linked Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) militants claim to have seized control of Mopti in central Mali.
