Greek Authorities Detain 176 EU Citizens
Sixty activists have begun a hunger strike following their detention by the Israeli Navy for over 40 hours. The Italian spokesperson for the flotilla, Marielle Nadella, stated that the current location and condition of Avila and Saif Abu are unknown. The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported receiving assurances from the Israeli government that the individuals would be treated well. The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that repatriation of activists has begun from Heraklion Airport. Thirty-one activists who arrived on an Israeli military vessel were transferred to a medical center. The remaining activists are being processed for departure under the responsibility of foreign consular authorities. The flight carrying the activists from Crete is expected to arrive in their home country, though the departure from Crete was delayed.
