Italian Prime Minister Condemns Israeli Seizure Of Flotilla
Israel has detained approximately 175 people attempting to sail toward Gaza to breach the blockade of the Palestinian territory. Authorities illegally seized 22 boats during the operation. At least 21 activists are currently being held hostage, including 20 Turkish citizens. Italy's Prime Minister condemned the attack on the global flotilla in international waters, questioning the utility and motivations behind the action. The Global Sumut flotilla departed from Barcelona, Spain, on April 12 to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. The vessel reached Sicily, Italy, on April 23 before the intervention occurred. The flotilla, containing 345 participants from 39 countries, was intercepted by Israel in international waters after a blockade began 56 miles west of Crete. Witnesses reported the presence of drones and seven warships during the intervention.
