Israeli Navy Intercepts Aid Convoy Ships
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has requested sanctions against a crowdfunding campaign supporting a flotilla mission intended to break the Gaza siege. The flotilla includes approximately 100 nationalities, including Italian participant Cecilia Rinaldini. Participants in the flotilla reported being threatened with weapons and forced to kneel during the interception. Italian Foreign Minister Taiani immediately activated the country's domestic crisis unit to manage the situation. The intervention occurred late in the evening roughly 70 miles off the coast of Crete. Around 400 activists were reported to be on board the vessels. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani activated the domestic crisis unit and contacted embassies in Athens and Tel Aviv to demand explanations. Approximately 175 activists were detained and are being transported to Israel, according to the Foreign Ministry.
