Red Sea Piracy Risk Levels Raised

developing Polskie Radio 3 Garowe 12d7d Impact 5
The piracy threat level has been raised to level three on a new scale following recent attacks. International discussions have commenced regarding the strengthening of anti-piracy operations. Stanisław Satkiewicz stated that increased military presence will not eliminate piracy without improvements to living conditions in Africa. Many countries currently deploy anti-piracy missions to patrol the Gulf of Aden, the Somali coast, and the Bab el-Mandeb strait. The World Trade Organization has raised the risk level for the area near Somalia and the Red Sea. At least three vessels have been hijacked since late last month following attempted kidnappings in the region. The Red Sea accounts for nearly one-third of global container traffic. The report noted that the situation has worsened due to US-led dual blockades.
